The modernist writer Ford Madox Ford had two daughters with whom he would become estranged in adulthood. The eldest, Christina, would become a Catholic nun, Sister Mary Matthew, and remain in England. Katharine would emmigrate to Ireland and marry the painter Charles Lamb.
