From his military family upbringing, to a life as a star athlete at Ohio State University and the Kansas City Chiefs, the artist Percy King has used the discipline learned from his past to master the craft of Shaolin wood working. 

 

At first content to embrace his love of furniture-making, even striving to create a style which could be identified as uniquely African-American, the processes of the craft eventually led to the striking portraiture of Black cultural icons that has seen the artist emerge alongside the craftsman.

 

Subterracon is excited and privileged to be a part of Percy’s journey of imagination, and his commitment to craft and personal identity.
